Two women who inspired me to write
There are so many writers whose work I love, but the first to inspire me were Anne McCaffrey and Ursula Le Guin. When I started writing, science fiction and fantasy were the providence of male writers, and these two broke that mould.
I adored McCaffrey’s “Dragonriders of Pern” series with its strong female characters and, of course, the many wonderful dragons.
Le Guin’s “The Left Hand of Darkness” and “The Dispossessed” blew my mind. I loved “The Lathe of Heaven” and the “Wizard of Earthsea”. The woman was an amazing writer and a visionary to the end.
Both created extraordinary worlds, inhabited by characters who challenged my thinking.
I would have loved to have met either of these women.
